When a portfolio company's date moves, get what's true.
This is the Two-Week Reality Check, set up for operating partners: a fixed-fee, two-week read of a slipping software program. You get one page you can act on, from someone who has spent more than twenty years in the seat where people ask why the date moved.
Book a free 20-minute callWhat you receive
One page, written for you and the CEO to use together:
- What's true
- What the people doing the work say, checked against what exists.
- What's assumed
- Including any AI productivity gain the plan counts on. I separate the ones someone measured from the ones someone hoped for.
- What needs deciding, and who owns each decision
- Often one decision nobody owns is behind the slip.
- The date I'd defend
- Or the reason I wouldn't.
When to call
- A committed date has moved, and the next status report won't change that.
- The board, a lender or a customer is asking what the real date is.
- You're weighing a leadership change, more budget, or stopping the work.
- Reports are green, but the CEO or CTO can't explain why nothing ships.
How it works
- A free 20-minute call. You describe what's happening and we decide whether a Reality Check is worth doing.
- Two weeks. I talk to the people doing the work, read what exists, and write the page. The fee is fixed and agreed before we begin.
- You decide. The company fixes it, asks me to stay, or stops the work. All three are fine outcomes.
Where this isn't the right call
If the problem is understood, owners are named and decisions are getting made, save the money. I'll tell you so on the call.
